What are dental implants?
A dental implant may be recommended for an individual who has lost a tooth due to severe decay, an accident, advanced gum disease or another dental issue. A dental implant is made up of an implant post, an abutment and a dental restoration.
The dental implant post is surgically placed into the socket of the missing tooth. As the jawbone heals, it fuses with the implant post. The healing process takes some time. Then, the abutment is attached to the top of the implant post. A dental restoration, like a dental crown, is constructed and attached to the abutment.
What are the advantages of dental implants?
There are many advantages that come with having a dental implant. Dental implants are designed to look and feel like natural teeth. These dental restorations can bring back self-confidence that was marred by one or more missing teeth.
